Jiliang TangJoin us as we welcome Assistant Professor, Jiliang Tang, Ph.D., from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Michigan State University as he presents a seminar on the foundations and applications of deep learning.

Dr. Tang has been an assistant professor in the computer science and engineering department at Michigan State University since the Fall of 2016. Before that, he was a research scientist at Yahoo Research and received his Ph.D. from Arizona State University in 2015. His research interests include social computing, data mining and machine learning, and their applications in social media and education.

He was awarded the 2020 SIGKDD Rising Star Award, 2020 Distinguished Withrow Research Award, Aminer Influential Scholars in AI (2019 & 2020), 2019 NSF Career Award, 2019 IJCAI Early Career Talk Award, the 2015 KDD Best Dissertation runner up and seven best paper (or runner-up) awards including WSDM2018 and KDD2016. He serves as a top data science conference organizer (e.g., KDD, WSDM, and SDM) and journal editor (e.g., TKDD). He has published his research in highly ranked journals and leading conference proceedings, which have received more than 12,000 citations with h-index 54 and extensive media coverage.
